My Favorite Engagement Session Locations
One of the biggest questions couples ask is βWhere should we do our engagement session?β
The good news is β you really canβt go wrong in Vermont.
Whether youβre dreaming of mountain views, lakeside sunsets, quiet forests, cozy small towns, or somewhere meaningful to your relationship, Iβll help you choose a location that feels natural and fits the kind of experience you want your photos to have.
Shelburne Farms
Shelburne Farms offers a little bit of everything β curated gardens, waterfront views, open fields, walking trails, and beautiful sunsets over Lake Champlain. Itβs one of my favorite locations for couples wanting a classic Vermont feel with a mix of elegant and natural scenery.
Couples are required to apply for a photography permit through Shelburne Farms and pay a $50 session fee.
Dogs are not permitted on the property. If you do want photos with your dog, we can start at Shelburne Bay Park and then finish the session at Shelburne Farms.
The best seasons for Shelburne Farms are Spring, Summer.
Best time of day: Sunset
Mount Mansfield
If youβre dreaming of mountain views, and maybe engagement photos inside a cloud, Mount Mansfield is hard to beat. The drive up the Auto Toll Road leads to sweeping views of the Green Mountains and fun rocky overlooks.
Best Time of Day: Morning
There is moderate walking on uneven rocky terrain
Dogs are permitted but I do recommend bringing an additional person to hold the dogs when needed.
Please note: Access to the summit requires taking the Mount Mansfield Auto Toll Road and paying the toll fee. The road is typically open daily from 9:30amβ4:30pm from mid May - mid October. I also recommend avoiding peak foliage weekends due to heavy traffic and crowds.
Oakledge Park
Oakledge Park is one of my favorite spots near Burlington for engagement sessions with a little bit of everything β rocky shoreline views, open fields, wooded trails, and beautiful views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Itβs especially beautiful on summer evenings and has some of the best sunsets in Vermont.
Best Season: Any season!
Best Time of Day: Sunset
Dogs are welcome.
Ideal For: Waterfront sessions, casual Vermont scenery, sunsets, and variety in one location
